Cristiano Ronaldo scores in Real Madrid win

Real Madrid beat Espanyol 3-0 in a very comfortable game for the giants from Madrid.

Cristiano Ronaldo got the scoring underway from the penalty spot after a dubious handball call against Espanyol. Cristiano Ronaldo had to retake his first successful penalty because Madrid players jumped the gun and entered the box too early. Ronaldo made no mistakes on his second attempt, which was almost identical to the first. After the goal, Cristiano celebrated with the boring, annoying and overdone thumb sucking celebration.

The other goals were scored by Higuain and Benzema.

Portugal appoint Paulo Bento as Manager

Former Sporting CP manager Paulo Bento will replace Carlos Queiroz as manager of Portugal. The 41 year old manager has signed a deal till 2012 with the Portuguese FA. Paulo Bento was a former Portuguese international with 35 caps to his name.

Paulo Bento now faces the difficult task of resurrecting Portugal’s Euro 2012 qualifying campaign.

Cristiano Ronaldo Scores in Real Madrid Victory over Real Sociedad

Cristiano Ronaldo scored the winner in Real Madrid’s 2-1 win over Real Sociedad. Ronaldo looked dangerous all match and was rewarded with a goal after his freekick took a slight deflection off Pepe and landed in the back of the net.

Angel Di Maria started the scoring with a beautiful strike from outside of the box. Raul Tamudo tied the match before Cristiano Ronaldo’s freekick decided the match. Real Madrid are undefeated in La Liga.

Portugal sack Queiroz

Following a poor run of results with Portugal and a lengthy six month ban, Carlos Queiroz has been relieved of his duties as manager of Portugal.

Portugal will be looking for a new manager to rejuvenate their Euro 2012 qualifying campaign. Rumor has it that Jose Mourinho and Diego Maradona are being considered as possible replacements.

Pique: Messi Better than Cristiano Ronaldo

Barcelona defender Gerard Pique believes that Lionel Messi is clearly a better player than Cristiano Ronaldo.

Pique said “You cannot compare Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. Right now there is too much difference and it is shown every day so there should be no debate.” It is no surprise that Pique would back his teammate over Cristiano Ronaldo.

Real Madrid beat Ajax in Champions League Opener

Cristiano Ronaldo and Real Madrid opened up their Champions League campaign with a comfortable 2-0 victory against Ajax Amsterdam. Cristiano Ronaldo looked very lively and was heavily involved with the play.

Cristiano Ronaldo took numerous dangerous shots and was a bit unlucky not to show up on the scoresheet. Gonzalo Higuain scored the only two goals in the match. Higuain should have had his hat-trick after Ronaldo slipped him a beautiful pass; however, the Argentine international sent his effort just wide.
