WIEN: Spain have been crowned as the champions of Euro 2008. After a 44 year drought, the Spaniards were able to regain the trophy once again.
Spain beat Germany in the final with a game winning goal scored by Fernando Torres.

Ronaldo avoiding return to Manchester
Reports around the world are speculating that Cristiano Ronaldo could be delaying his foot surgery in order to avoid a confrontation with Alex Ferguson.
In other news, Real Madrid have said that 85 million Euros is the price that they will be paying for Cristiano Ronaldo.
Cristiano Ronaldo foot injury
Cristiano Ronaldo has said that he has been suffering from a foot injury for the last three months. Ronaldo played through the pain and is now ready to take care of the injury.
Cristiano Ronaldo will have surgery on the injured foot and then rest for the new season. The Portuguese superstar is expected to be fit in time for next season.
Future of Cristiano Ronaldo
Now that the European Championships have come to a bitter end for the Portuguese, the future of Cristiano Ronaldo is to be decided.
Will he stay at Manchester United or move to Real Madrid? Manchester United is reporting that the player is not for sale at ANY price. Real Madrid has nearly unlimited resources and can pay whatever Manchester demands.
For now all we have is rumors as nothing has been decided. Many false reports have come out of England claiming that Cristiano Ronaldo has already been sold.
So we must wait and see how the this story develops…
Germany beat Portugal
BASEL: Portugal was unable to recover from a German blitzkrieg that saw the Germans with an early two goal lead. The Portuguese fought back only to come up one goal short of tying the match.
Bastian Schweinsteiger put the Germans in front with an awesome team goal that was started with Lukas Podolski and Michael Ballack. Podolski played an undefendable pass on the ground that Schweinsteiger was able to run on to and put in the back of the net.
Germany quickly doubled their lead with a Miroslav Klose goal. The towering striker was left wide open on a free kick and Schweinsteiger picked him out for the second goal.
Portugal fought back and Cristiano Ronaldo fired off a dangerous shot that Lehmann could only deflect to Nuno Gomes who put the ball into the back of the net.
After half time it was once again the Germans who showed more class. Another set piece taken by Schweinsteiger found Michael Ballack who put the ball into the back of the net with his head after slightly pushing off Paolo Ferreira.
Portugal continued to fight and were eventually rewarded with a conselation goal from Helder Postiga.
The final score was 3-2 in favor of the great Germans.
Portugal to face Germany
Portugal and Germany will play in the quarter-finals on Friday, June 20th. Despite finishing first in their group, Portugal will be upset to be playing against an elite team in the first knockout round.
Portugal lose against the Swiss
BASEL: Switzerland was able to take three points in this meaningless encounter. Both goals were scored by Hakan Yakin.
Cristiano Ronaldo did not play as he was rested along with seven other starters.
Cristiano Ronaldo set to meet with agent
Cristiano Ronaldo is set to meet with his agent, Jorge Mendes, over the weekend. The big topic of discussion will be Cristiano Ronaldo’s potential move to Real Madrid.
Jorge Mendes is currently flying to Switzerland where he will meet with his superstar client shortly.
Cristiano Ronaldo ready for knockout rounds
Cristiano Ronaldo looked delighted and said that he was “very happy” after advancing to the quarter finals of Euro 2008.
The Portuguese superstar said, “our main aim was to get to next phase. I’m very happy to have helped my team-mates to win.”
“I managed to score, and my goal is dedicated to the Red Cross. I’m thinking about the children and that makes me very proud.”
Man of the match Cristiano Ronaldo noted that his team played poorly in the first half, but was pleased with how they responded after half time.
Portugal ease to victory
GENEVA: Cristiano Ronaldo found himself on the score sheet for the Portuguese as they were able to brush of a brave effort from the Czech Republic.
Deco started off the scoring with a scrappy goal that was started by Cristiano Ronaldo’s failed attempt to dribble past Petr Cech. Less than 10 minutes later the Czech’s were even with a set piece goal from Sionko.
Cristiano Ronaldo was able to score the game winning goal in the second half by driving a hard low shot past Petr Cech into the back of the net.
Ricardo Quaresma got the final goal of the match after fine work from Cristiano Ronaldo to set him up. Cristiano Ronaldo was able to launch a counter attack that saw Ricardo Quaresma wide open near an open goal. Ricardo Quaresma made no mistake and calmly sealed the 3-1 result in favor of the Portuguese.
With the two victories, Portugal have secured a spot in the knockout rounds. Portugal’s last match of the group stage will be against the Swiss.
